When exploring hand-knotted viscose rugs, it is essential to understand both the construction and the application. Hand-knotted carpets are the highest expression of the weaver's craft. Each knot is tied individually by hand on a vertical loom — there is no glue, no shortcut, no machine. A single 8x10 ft hand-knotted wool rug can contain over a million individual knots and take a skilled artisan 6-14 months to complete. The result is a heirloom-grade piece that gets richer with age and lasts generations.
Coupled with this, viscose — sometimes called "art silk" — gives you the lustrous sheen and fluid drape of real silk at a much more accessible price point. Made from regenerated cellulose fibres, viscose accepts dye beautifully and produces vivid, jewel-like colour palettes that suit contemporary interiors.

Flip it over — on a true hand-knotted rug the back of the design is as visible as the front, with slight irregularities in knot spacing. Hand-tufted rugs have a glued canvas backing. Machine-made rugs have perfectly uniform knots.
KPSI stands for Knots Per Square Inch — a measure of how fine the weave is. Higher KPSI means more detail, longer making time and higher price. Wool rugs typically range 80-250 KPSI; silk rugs can reach 400-900 KPSI.
Bamboo silk is a type of viscose made specifically from bamboo cellulose. It has a slightly silkier hand-feel and is more eco-friendly than standard wood-pulp viscose. We offer both.
No — viscose is moisture-sensitive and can develop water marks if over-wetted. Always use professional dry cleaning or low-moisture extraction for viscose rugs.
