Bhadohi, in Uttar Pradesh, is the largest carpet-weaving centre in South Asia and the only Indian region with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for handmade carpets. Carpets have been woven here continuously since the 16th century, when Persian weavers settled in the region under Mughal patronage. Today, Bhadohi produces the majority of India's handmade carpet exports.
Ajaypee Carpets has been a Bhadohi manufacturer since 1987. We hand-knot, hand-tuft and hand-weave directly in our own facilities — no middlemen, no resellers, no licensed agents. Every piece in this collection is a genuine GI-tagged Bhadohi carpet, made by master artisans whose families have been weaving for generations.
We do not always keep stock of bhadohi carpets — most of our pieces in this category are custom-woven on order. Send us your requirements for a quick quote.
Request a Custom QuoteThe Geographical Indication (GI) tag is a legal certification that protects products with a specific regional origin. Bhadohi was granted GI status in 2010, recognising the unique craftsmanship and heritage of the region's handmade carpets.
Bhadohi has produced handmade carpets continuously for over 400 years, with techniques passed through generations of weaving families. The combination of inherited skill, optimal climate (for wool/silk processing) and concentration of artisans makes Bhadohi the most important handmade carpet centre in India.
Different traditions, both excellent. Iranian carpets carry centuries of regional design heritage; Bhadohi carpets offer comparable craftsmanship with greater design flexibility and significantly more accessible pricing. Many "Persian" rugs sold globally are in fact woven in Bhadohi.
