Cotton Rugs for Dining Room
When exploring cotton rugs for dining room, it is essential to understand both the construction and the application. Cotton rugs and dhurries are lightweight, breathable and remarkably easy to live with. Because cotton is washable and naturally hypoallergenic, our cotton collection is a favourite for bedrooms, nurseries, kids' rooms and casual dining areas. Each piece is flatwoven by hand on traditional pit looms — there is no glue, no synthetic backing, just yarn and weave.
Coupled with this, the dining room rug needs to do two jobs at once — define the dining zone visually and accommodate chairs pulling in and out without catching. The rule of thumb: your rug should be at least 24 inches larger than your dining table on every side. That gives you room to slide chairs back without their rear legs falling off the rug.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I machine-wash a cotton dhurrie?
Small cotton dhurries (up to 3x5 ft) can usually be machine-washed on a cold gentle cycle. Larger pieces should be dry-cleaned or spot-cleaned to preserve shape and colour.
Are cotton rugs durable?
Cotton flatweaves are durable for low-to-medium traffic areas. For hallways and heavily used rooms, we recommend wool or jute instead.
What size rug do I need for a 6-seater dining table?
An 8x10 ft rug works perfectly for most 6-seater rectangular tables (60-72 inch length). It gives you 24+ inches on each side for chair clearance.
Are wool rugs stain-resistant enough for a dining room?
Pure wool has natural lanolin oils that resist staining well — blot spills immediately and most will lift cleanly. We also recommend a stain-protection treatment (Scotchgard or equivalent) applied before delivery.
