Hand-Knotted Rugs for Hallway & Runners
When exploring hand-knotted rugs for hallway & runners, it is essential to understand both the construction and the application. Hand-knotted carpets are the highest expression of the weaver's craft. Each knot is tied individually by hand on a vertical loom — there is no glue, no shortcut, no machine. A single 8x10 ft hand-knotted wool rug can contain over a million individual knots and take a skilled artisan 6-14 months to complete. The result is a heirloom-grade piece that gets richer with age and lasts generations.
Coupled with this, a runner softens the longest, most-walked surface in any home — and turns a transitional space into a designed one. The right length is critical: leave 6-12 inches of floor visible at each end of the runner, with even margins on the sides. Standard widths are 2 to 3 ft; we make custom lengths in any dimension you need.

How can I tell if a rug is genuinely hand-knotted?
Flip it over — on a true hand-knotted rug the back of the design is as visible as the front, with slight irregularities in knot spacing. Hand-tufted rugs have a glued canvas backing. Machine-made rugs have perfectly uniform knots.
What does KPSI mean?
KPSI stands for Knots Per Square Inch — a measure of how fine the weave is. Higher KPSI means more detail, longer making time and higher price. Wool rugs typically range 80-250 KPSI; silk rugs can reach 400-900 KPSI.
What's the standard runner rug size?
Standard runner widths are 2 ft, 2.5 ft and 3 ft. Standard lengths are 6, 8 and 10 ft. For longer corridors, we make custom runners up to 20 ft on order.
How do I keep a runner from slipping?
A non-slip runner pad is essential — it stops slipping, adds cushioning, and extends the runner's life by 30-50%. We can supply one cut to your runner's exact size.
