Are hand-tufted rugs as durable as hand-knotted?
Not quite — hand-tufted rugs typically last 10-25 years with normal use, versus 50+ for hand-knotted. The difference is the latex backing, which can dry out over decades. For an heirloom piece, choose hand-knotted; for everyday luxury at a better price, hand-tufted is excellent.
Why do hand-tufted rugs have a smell when new?
A faint smell from the latex adhesive is normal for the first few weeks. Air the rug in a well-ventilated space (or outdoors on a dry day) and the smell will disappear. We use low-VOC latex for all our pieces.
What size rug do I need under a king-size bed?
For a king bed (about 6x6.5 ft) you'll want a 9x12 ft rug to extend 2-3 ft on the sides and foot. For a queen bed, an 8x10 ft works well. A runner on each side (2.5x6 ft) is a more economical alternative.
Is silk a good choice for a bedroom rug?
Yes — bedrooms are the ideal setting for silk because foot traffic is low and there's usually less risk of spills than in living/dining areas. Pure silk and silk-wool blends shine here.
