Kilim Wool & Silk Blend
When exploring kilim wool & silk blend, it is essential to understand both the construction and the application. Kilim is a centuries-old flatweave tradition with roots across Persia, Turkey, the Caucasus and Central Asia. The defining feature is the slit-weave technique: each colour block is woven separately, with small slits where colours meet. The result is a tapestry-like rug with striking, often symbolic geometric motifs.
Coupled with this, our wool-and-silk blend rugs offer the best of both fibres — the durability and resilience of pure wool combined with the lustrous highlights of silk. Master weavers use wool for the structural pile and accent silk in motifs, medallions or borders, creating a layered visual effect that shifts as you walk around the room.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are kilim rugs reversible?
Yes — the slit-weave construction looks essentially identical on both sides, so kilims can be flipped to balance wear.
Where do kilim rugs work best?
Kilims work beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and layered under coffee tables. The geometric patterns hide everyday dirt well, making them practical for high-traffic zones too.
How much silk is in a wool-silk blend rug?
Most of our blends are 80% wool / 20% silk, with the silk used for highlights and motifs. We can produce custom blends from 90/10 to 50/50 depending on your aesthetic and budget.
Are wool-silk blends easier to care for than pure silk?
Yes — the wool backbone makes them more forgiving of foot traffic, vacuuming and the occasional spill. We still recommend professional cleaning every 2-3 years.
