When exploring cotton rugs for living room, it is essential to understand both the construction and the application. Each piece is flatwoven by hand on traditional pit looms — there is no glue, no synthetic backing, just yarn and weave.

Choosing the right size is critical: the front legs of every sofa and chair in the seating arrangement should sit on the rug, with at least 8-12 inches of rug visible around the edges.

Small cotton dhurries (up to 3x5 ft) can usually be machine-washed on a cold gentle cycle. Larger pieces should be dry-cleaned or spot-cleaned to preserve shape and colour.
Cotton flatweaves are durable for low-to-medium traffic areas. For hallways and heavily used rooms, we recommend wool or jute instead.
Measure the seating arrangement. The rug should be large enough that the front legs of all sofas and chairs sit on it. For a standard 3-seater + 2 armchairs, an 8x10 ft works well; for larger sectional setups, choose 9x12 ft or larger.
Wool every time — silk is too delicate for the foot traffic of a busy living room. If you love the look of silk, choose a wool-silk blend (80/20) which gives you the lustre with wool's durability.
