Kilim Cotton Rugs
When exploring kilim cotton rugs, it is essential to understand both the construction and the application. Kilim is a centuries-old flatweave tradition with roots across Persia, Turkey, the Caucasus and Central Asia. The defining feature is the slit-weave technique: each colour block is woven separately, with small slits where colours meet. The result is a tapestry-like rug with striking, often symbolic geometric motifs.
Coupled with this, cotton rugs and dhurries are lightweight, breathable and remarkably easy to live with. Because cotton is washable and naturally hypoallergenic, our cotton collection is a favourite for bedrooms, nurseries, kids' rooms and casual dining areas. Each piece is flatwoven by hand on traditional pit looms — there is no glue, no synthetic backing, just yarn and weave.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are kilim rugs reversible?
Yes — the slit-weave construction looks essentially identical on both sides, so kilims can be flipped to balance wear.
Where do kilim rugs work best?
Kilims work beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and layered under coffee tables. The geometric patterns hide everyday dirt well, making them practical for high-traffic zones too.
Can I machine-wash a cotton dhurrie?
Small cotton dhurries (up to 3x5 ft) can usually be machine-washed on a cold gentle cycle. Larger pieces should be dry-cleaned or spot-cleaned to preserve shape and colour.
Are cotton rugs durable?
Cotton flatweaves are durable for low-to-medium traffic areas. For hallways and heavily used rooms, we recommend wool or jute instead.
